The Hearthstone Plan has been designed for flexibility and versatility!
The Vineyard graphic below illustrates "structured learning time" that may be applied to home, neighborhood co-ops, community schools, and private and public schools. Parents are invited to select resources to meet the needs of their own families. Lists of many resource options are available on the course pages.
Our sample schedule illustrates how this structured time can be scheduled for 4 hours a day -- 3 days a week. This schedule may work especially well in a neighborhood co-op or community school. Families may consider a schedule with more flexibility if they wish. Families may also consider how to incorporate group field trips, service opportunities, project work, and family work routines at other times during the week. The "vineyard" is a term we apply to structured time for learning when children are engaged in learning at their own level and progressing at their own pace. Click on the "Light and Water" and "Vineyard" buttons below for more information on these segments of structured learning time.
Light and Water - The first and last period: A classroom setting begins and ends with an opportunity to ponder and apply stories from the past. As students participate, they learn to invite and capture the essential elements of "light and water" to enable correct principles and core values to grow within the heart.
The first hour includes a devotional with a song, scripture, prayer, pledge, and religious instruction.
Two or more hours of study and application are sandwiched in the middle of the first and final periods. Language Arts, Math, and Science may be studied during this time.
As students study these subjects each week, they will develop the "might, mind, and strength" components of the soul.
